L'Oreal Detox and Brighten Pure-Clay Mask Review

Recently I was out looking for a new face mask to try out because I wanted a mask that would help with breakouts and make my skin feel clean. I have tried the GLAMGLOW SUPERMUD Clearing Treatment in the past and really liked it but it’s quite expensive. I wanted something similar to that but at a more affordable price point. I knew that charcoal is good for what I wanted, and I didn’t have problems with the GLAMGLOW mask, but I had tried a cheaper charcoal mask that was too harsh and made my skin red. I was weary about trying another cheap charcoal mask for fear it would be the same. However, I came across this L’Oreal mask and I remember when it came out I really wanted to try it. So I decided to just go ahead and try it and see if it would act like the other cheaper charcoal mask. Well, luckily, it didn’t…

This mask has a very smooth but thick formula and actually has a bit of a jelly feel to it. It’s kind of hard to explain but it’s just a little different than other clay masks. It’s super easy to apply and blend out onto the skin to get an even layer. It’s a dark grey color but as it dries it becomes a lighter grey color. However, in certain areas, like around my nose, it still was somewhat dark where all the pores are. It reminded me a lot of the GLAMGLOW mask in that way. You only leave it on for 10 minutes and rinse off which is nice that it’s quite quick compared to some masks that you leave on for 20-30 minutes. It also rinsed off quite easy which is great.

Afterwards, the first thing I noticed was that my skin wasn’t red. I was super happy about that since that was my biggest concern. My skin was definitely smoother and softer. It definitely felt cleaner, like the mask had really drawn out all the buildup and impurities within my pores. My skin looked more refreshed and renewed. It has helped slightly to brighten my overall complexion but I wouldn’t say it’s the best brightening mask. I also wouldn’t say that this mask is particularly drying, because at first it wasn’t. However, when I started using it more and as the weather has become colder, this mask can be a little too drying on my skin. I only use it once a week now as opposed to twice a week and I have fairly normal skin that isn’t too oily or too dry.

Overall I’ve been really happy with this mask. It does exactly what it claims and what I wanted it to do. My skin definitely feels cleaner and this has helped with my breakouts. My skin truly feels like it can “breath” better since I’ve started using this. I wouldn’t say it’s a perfect dupe for the GLAMGLOW mask but it does have quite a few similarities and works perfectly for my skin. I will definitely be repurchasing this and would recommend it to others as well. I’m definitely curious to try out the other masks within their “pure-clay” range. I really wish they had one for hydrating and nourishing the skin because I definitely need one, especially during this time of the year.
