March Ipsy Glam Bag: Dirty Little Secret, Skone, Glossier and More!

The time has come for another Ipsy Glam Bag review. I was pretty excited when I saw what I was receiving in my bag. One brand I am pretty familiar with, three I am newly familiar with and the last I’ve never tried at all, so overall I felt pretty good about what I was going to receive. They all looked like good, interesting products. Some of these products ended up really shocking me…in good and bad ways…

The bag for last month was pretty interesting. The bag was a black and white fabric with a pink zipper. It also came with two markers (a green and blue). The point of last month’s bag was to inspire creativity and so you could actually color in the bag however you wanted to. I love the idea for this bag but not real crazy about the actual design on the bag. Therefore, I decided to give it away because I know someone else would appreciate it.

The first product in my bag was the Balm Dotcom universal skin salve by Glossier. I received the Coconut flavor and these cost $12 for the full size product. I am so glad I received the coconut flavor because I love it and would definitely be the one I’m most drawn to out of all the flavors. I was a bit skeptical when I saw this product because other moisturizing products that I’ve received just didn’t impress me. However this salve is actually really nice. It’s very lightweight and doesn’t feel super greasy. I mainly use it on my lips but have also used in on my cuticles. This product is not only moisturizing but nourishing as well which I love. It doesn’t just sit on top of the skin but rather sinks in to really hydrate the skin. Definitely one I would purchase and recommend to others.

The next product was from the brand Dirty Little Secret, and it was their Baked Highlighter in the color Bellini which costs $14. This one is a light pink color and has a beautiful sheen to it. I like that with this highlighter I can determine how much of a “highlighting” effect I want. I can apply one layer for a light subtle sheen to the skin or apply a few layers for a highlight that pops. The formula is great because it’s not sparkly or glittery but really just gives a beautiful glow to the skin. The only aspect that I dislike is the actual color. For a subtle highlight it’s not bad but when I want a more intense highlight this one is too pink. I prefer a highlight color that blends into my skin a bit more and this one just stands out too much for me. So, formula is great but the color just isn’t one I like on me personally.

Another product in my bag was the Tarte Sex Kitten Eyeliner which costs $20. This eyeliner is a gel liner that’s in the form of a pencil instead of a pot, like a lot of gel liners. The color (black) is very pigmented and glides on really easily. You can use it in the waterline or on the lid and even smudge it out for a smokey eye look. You have to smudge it out though before it sets because once it sets it doesn’t budge. It’s also waterproof so you don’t have to worry about it smearing. It’s definitely a nice eyeliner but I have other black eye liners that I like just as much that costs less so for me, I wouldn’t purchase it.

The next product I received was the Cream Pigment Eyeshadow from the brand Hikari. The shade I received was Shine which is a bronzy gold color and costs $13. This shadow has a creamy consistency and when I swatched it with my finger it was super pigmented. The problem I have with it is applying it to the eye lid. I tried a dry brush, a wet brush and my finger to apply it. It’s definitely better with my finger or a wet brush because you’re able to get more pigmentation than with a dry brush. The problem however, is that I can’t get it to look smooth. When I apply the shadow it just ends up looking patchy. I tried different techniques multiple times and just wasn’t very impressed. I don’t know if it’s just the shadow that I happened to have because this has a lot of great reviews. I have other shadows that perform better so it’s not worth the money for me.

The last product I received was the Large Shadow Brush from Skone Cosmetics which costs $15. This brush is absolutely beautiful. It has a black handle with copper ferrule and writing. The bristles on this brush are soft and aren’t real long but not real short either. They are the perfect length for applying the perfect amount of shadow to the lid and even help to blend it out. The handle feels very well made and sturdy so I know it won’t break or fall apart. I haven’t had any issues with the bristles falling out either. This brush is absolutely great for the price.

Overall I was pretty happy with the products I received in my bag for the month of March. My favorites are definitely the skin salve and the brush. I would definitely purchase each and might even purchase other Skone brushes as well. The highlighter and eye liner were both great products in terms of their formulas; just not my preference with color or cost. The eye shadow was the most disappointing for me. It’s a beautiful color but just didn’t work the way I wanted it to. I have tried another product from Hikari and loved it so this doesn’t turn me off to the brand. Overall, though I was happy with the products and I can’t wait to see what I get in my next bag!
